Competition and Classes

The Waikato International Cello Fest 2016 is excited to offer young cellists the chance to compete in the inaugural Wallace International Cello Competition proudly supported by the Wallace Foundation. The finalists of the competition will be vying for a share of NZ$10,000 in prize money. We are now welcoming applications for the competition from cellists who are aged 25 years and younger, and based at an institution in New Zealand, Australia, and Singapore (or of those nationalities); applications must be made by 30 April 2016.

Further to the competition, the festival will be hosting masterclasses and workshops to be given by the four international guests, Wolfgang Schmidt, Li-Wei Qin, Philippe Muller, and Richard Aaron. The classes and workshops are open to cellists of any age who are performing at a high level.

Both the competition and classes represent a fabulous opportunity for cellists to hone their skills with, and make an artistic statement to some of the world’s finest musicians.

For complete information about the regulations, schedule, and fees for the competition and classes, as well as information about submitting applications, please consult the Competition and Classes Information Form below. Applications can then be made using the relevant registration forms.
