Welcome from the Chair

When you study social sciences, you become a part of the largest and most diverse School in the Faculty. It includes Geography, History, Sociology, Political Science, Philosophy and Anthropology as well as a number of affiliated subjects, such as Tourism, Environmental Planning, Social Policy, Public Policy, Labour Studies, Social Science Research, Social Work, Religious Studies, and Women’s and Gender Studies. We are also a core area for Pacific Studies at the University.

We have an intellectually diverse community of scholars known for innovative teaching and commitment to students. Our mix of courses provides you with a truly interdisciplinary grouping of subjects. Broadly, our curriculum covers subjects that will enable you to think critically about how individuals and groups in society relate to each other and the wider environment. We live in exciting and challenging times, and our degrees will equip you to make a contribution to your community through your chosen career and as an active citizen.
