Harata Paterson - Lecturer

Harata Paterson is a descendent of Ngati Rangiwewehi (Te Arawa), Ngai-te-Rangi, Ngapuhi and Te Rarawa.
Harata graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (Development Studies and Māori), Bachelor of Laws and a Master of Laws (First Class Honours), and has been admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.
She practiced in the areas of family law, immigration law, civil litigation and Treaty of Waitangi issues before joining Te Piringa - Faculty of Law in 2004.
Harata's research interests include identity politics, the intersection of gender, race and sexuality legal theory and practice with a particular focus on Treaty of Waitangi issues, legal education and Māori women and the law.
