Waikato grad wins Tauranga award
10 October 2010
A Tauranga solicitor and University of Waikato graduate has won a young professionals award in the Bay of Plenty.
Nicole Carson graduated from Waikato in 2007 with a Bachelor of Laws. She now works in general practice at Burley Attwood Law in Tauranga and teaches up to eight jurisprudence tutorials a year for the University of Waikato's Diploma of Law in Tauranga.
Mrs Carson won the Young Professional Employee of the Year award at the annual Young Read Woudberg Tauranga Young Professionals Awards held at Mills Reef Winery on October 9. The awards are run by Rocket!, a group of young professionals affiliated to the Tauranga Chamber of Commerce. The awards aim to recognise young employees and business owners in Tauranga and promote to the region and nation the fact that these people are key to the city's economic growth.
Three finalists were chosen and all were interviewed on the day of the awards ceremony. Mrs Carson says she believes it's important for Tauranga that young professional people get involved with the city. "Getting involved in the awards is a great way to have your efforts recognised by your peers and the wider business community, as well as increasing your profile within your profession. The calibre of applicants has been high right from the inaugural awards ceremony and it's a privilege to be named the winner this year".
Waikato's Te Piringa - Faculty of Law Dean Professor Brad Morse says Mrs Carson's win shows what can be achieved with a degree from Waikato.
The Faculty of Law's Diploma of Law in Tauranga has been designed to meet the needs of a wide range of students, and has flexible full-time and part-time study options. Diploma of Law papers can be credited towards the first and second years of the Bachelor of Laws programme at the Hamilton campus.
