Law student wins first prize

Te Piringa - Faculty of Law is pleased to congratulate one of its own, Rohan Wanigasekera, for his outstanding achievement as winner of the Environmental Defence Society (EDS) University Essay Competition for 2011.
The essays can be on any environmental law topic. Rohan's essay, Aquaculture Reform – Consenting to a New Gold Rush? looked at the proposed reforms of legislation relating to aquaculture in light of the Government's renewed commitment to support aquaculture growth.
Rohan is currently in his final year as an LLB Honours student. As the winner, Rohan had the opportunity to attend the recent EDS environmental conference: Coastlines, Spatial planning for land and sea, which was held at SKYCITY Convention Centre, Auckland where he had the opportunity to meet people from a diverse range of sectors including local and central government, legal practitioners, academics and a range of private sector representatives.
The EDS is a not-for-profit environmental organisation comprised of resource management professionals who are committed to improving environmental outcomes within New Zealand.
