The Attorney General will look at the role of the lawyer as advocate, starting from John Adams' defence of the accused in the Boston Massacre trial, through to some more recent cases.

The Hon Christopher Finlayson's current parliamentary roles include, Attorney General, Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations and Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage. In his career, he has represented clients in all of New Zealand’s Courts and Tribunals, including nine appearances in the Privy Council, and he is currently a member of the Rules Committee of the High Court which regulates court procedures in New Zealand.
