Ontario’s Minister and Deputy Minister of Aboriginal Affairs David Zimmer and Deborah Richardson – both former lawyers – will provide an overview of Canada’s history with First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, and then reflect on how Canadian law has shaped government policies on indigenous issues and claims.

This discussion will include an honest account of the failures of the law to protect indigenous people and their treaties for centuries, and recent court decisions that are now helping to rebuild relationships and trust.

All students welcome.
