Full Membership

Permanent and fixed-term staff of the University, and students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate or post-graduate papers automatically get full membership of the University Library. Full membership provides:

  • Access to library electronic resources including ejournals and databases
  • Ability to borrow library materials - different loan periods and limits apply for Undergraduate Students, Graduate Students and Staff)
  • Access to the Library's interlibrary loan and document delivery services
  • Use of Library computers
  • Ability to book group rooms and equipment

Associate Membership

Associate membership is available to members of partner organisations under specified programmes or reciprocal agreements. Associate members can borrow most materials from the Library, but do not have access to the Library's electronic resources or interlibrary loan services. There is a small number of databases available on specific computers, that can be accessed by anyone visiting the Central Library. More information about eligibility for Associate Membership is available.

Alumni Membership

Alumni of the University of Waikato may join the Library at a cost of $100 per year (Life Members may join the Library at a discounted cost of $50 per year). Alumni members can borrow most materials from the Library, but do not have access to the Library's electronic resources or interlibrary loan services.

Life members of the Alumni Association can however have access to a selection of Library databases whether or not they are members of the Library. More information for our Alumni is available on the Alumni web page.

Enquiries about Library membership should be directed to the Library Service Desks on Level 2 of the Student Centre or to the Lending Desk in the Education Library.

Community

Members of the public are welcome to visit the Library and browse our collections, however, books and other materials are available for consultation within the Library only. A coin-operated photocopier is available on Level 2 of the Student Centre.

There is a small selection of databases which can be used in the Central Library by members of the public - for more information ask at one of our Service Desks.

Responsibilities of Library Membership

All Library members must abide by the Library Regulations. In particular, borrowers should ensure that they are familiar with Library Recall procedures.

Borrower Account Notifications from the Library

Most library notifications for recalled items, overdues etc. are sent by email. For students this will generally be your student email address unless you have officially notified the University of an alternative preferred email. Please ensure you check your email account every couple of days if you borrow material from the Library so that recalled or overdue material can be returned promptly to avoid fines.

When letters or invoices are posted, they will be sent to the current address on your library record. It is each borrower's responsibility to notify Lending Services staff immediately of any change of address during the academic year, (including study breaks), during Summer School, and during the Summer Vacation period.

Failure to do this will not be taken as an excuse for not receiving Library correspondence.

You can opt to receive notification in advance that library materials are due, or that material is waiting for you to pick up. For more information see Txt Notifications.
