The University of Waikato has boosted ties with its commercialisation arm by appointing top academic Professor Bruce Clarkson to the WaikatoLink board.
Professor Clarkson, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, has taken over one of two University positions on the WaikatoLink board.
He joins new chairman and Waikato distinguished alumnus Tenby Powell and another new board member Hamilton lawyer James McGillivray, who replace former chairman Dr Gerald Bailey and Peter Schuyt. In addition, the CEO of WaikatoLink Mark Stuart has resigned and the search for a new CEO is underway.
The new board members were on campus at the end of March to meet University Chancellor Jim Bolger, Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford, Deans and key staff.
Professor Clarkson says it’s the perfect time for the University to have strong links with its commercialisation arm.
“WaikatoLink is a wholly owned subsidiary of this University; the opportunities are enormous if we can focus on the critical synergies between research and economic development.”
