Waikato University Tauranga numbers up on 2010
1 April 2011
The number of Equivalent Full Time Students at the University of Waikato’s Tauranga campus at the start of A Semester is 11% up on the same time last year.
By late March, the university had 524.8 EFTS at its Tauranga campus, up 11% on the same time last year. The bulk of these (522.8) are Ministry-funded (ie domestic) EFTS.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford says students (new and returning) heeded the message to enrol early. Waikato University had encouraged early enrolment for 2011 because of the tight tertiary environment of the past two years.
The university and the Tertiary Education Commission have agreed that university’s overall Ministry-Funded EFTS target for 2011 is 8694 EFTS (303 EFTS higher than its funded 2010 target). As part of this funded provision in 2011, the university intends to enrol 595 Ministry-funded EFTS in Tauranga.
All universities must work to a maximum of 103% of their Ministry-funded EFTS target and Waikato University finished 2010 on 102% of its target. The university continues to manage enrolments carefully, Professor Crawford says.
