Fieldays: Labour leader gives Waikato pig hunting a shot

16 June 2011

Fieldays

Giving it a shot: Labour leader Phil Goff joins Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford at the shooting gallery.

Labour leader Phil Goff joined Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford to try his hand at virtual pig shooting during a visit to the University of Waikato premier feature stand at Fieldays today.

The old-fashioned shooting gallery aims to illustrate the consultancy work University researchers are engaged in. Waikato’s Institute for Business Research is currently undertaking a feasibility study for an adventure tourism project involving pig shooting.

The shooting gallery, which uses nerf guns and foam ‘bullets’,  is proving a hit with visitors young and old – but it’s the kids who are having the most success in knocking down the tin wild pigs. Mr Goff definitely fell into the older age category with a zero hit rate.

Testing the before and after samples from the wine maturator also on display on the stand, Mr Goff joked that we all like to say we get better with age like red wine, but that wasn’t always the case.
