Support for the Future: Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Alister Jones and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford met with Science and Innovation Minister Dr Wayne Mapp (centre) last week.

Science and Innovation Minister Wayne Mapp visited the University of Waikato this week to discuss a range of issues with Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford and other top staff.

Senior university academics and Dr Mapp discussed future support for research and innovation in New Zealand, in particular, how this relates to universities. Dr Mapp also met with WaikatoLink, the university’s commercialisation arm.

Dr Mapp spent two hours on campus, and was particularly interested in the university’s recent launch of the Environmental Research Institute, Professor Crawford says. “He is also very supportive of the University of Waikato’s work around water quality and sustainable food production.”
