Hamilton students celebrate graduation
4 May 2012
Good times: Students from the University of Waikato celebrate graduation.
Hamilton’s CBD was awash with black and red this week when more than 1000 University of Waikato graduands paraded through the city on their way to graduation ceremonies at Founders Theatre.
Ceremonies ran from 30 April to 3 May, with a daily parade through Hamilton.
The achievements of graduands were endorsed by University of Waikato Chancellor Jim Bolger and Vice-Chancellor Professor Roy Crawford who officially conferred the qualifications.
Speaking at the Wednesday morning ceremony was graduand and Rhodes Scholar Briar Thompson, who thanked those who had helped her and other graduates during their tertiary education journeys, and spoke about the responsibility that comes with the privilege of education.
The ceremonies saw the capping of graduands from across the university’s schools and faculties including several postgraduates.
