I got in to Scott base on Thursday around 9pm (after landing at 6.30pm) - we had departed Christchurch at 11am. Originally we were supposed to leave Monday night on an Airbus, however the ice runway at Pegasus had turned to slush so they can only land with a Ski Hercules (C130) plane. This needed its engine fixed which delayed us until Wednesday. On Wednesday we were delayed from 10.30am until 3 pm, and then when we were 1hr into the flight, we had to turn back for saftey reasons (the airforce has higher saftey regulations than commercial airlines).
In the end we left on Thursday – it was a smooth flight and I managed to get some great pictures out the window. Mū had a tour through the cockpit and even had a turn at flying, that cow sure has got around! I also will be making a timelapse from the window in the cockpit!
Once we arrived at Pegasus we were taxied to ‘Ivan the terror bus’ (HUGE bus) which had to be towed by a big tractor over the soft snow. But we’ve made it here and now have to rush to get ready to get out to the field on Monday. Craig Cary and the 16 member K020 team are due to fly down today, I hope to see him tonight but we will see. More pictures coming soon…
