NIDEA is hosted by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Waikato. Its establishment is guided by a four-member Interim Management Committee comprising NIDEA Director Professor Natalie Jackson, Motu Director Howard Fancy, and representatives of the deans of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and Waikato Management School.

They will also draw together an independent Research Advisory Group which will provide national and international advice on emerging issues, strategic directions and effective communication channels for NIDEA's research output. NIDEA Research Associates will complete the Institute’s external advisory team.
