About Me
(David) Ian POOL , has an MA (NZ, 1960, Auck Univ College) and a PhD (Australian National University, 1965), Elected Fellow Royal Society of New Zealand (1994). He is an Emeritus Professor, University of Waikato, Associe de Recherche, CEPED, Universite, Paris (Descartes) and Honorary Professor, Jinjiang College, Sichuan University, China. With prof Yve Charbit, Universite Paris, he is Editor-in-Chief for a new book series to be published by Springer, Demographic Transformation and Socio-Economic Development.
A member of the International Union for the Scientific Study of Population (IUSSP) and of the Population Association of America since 1965, he was Elected to IUSSP’s Nominating Committee, 1987-1991, and Appointed to the IUSSP’s Scientific Committee on Age Structure and Policy, 1997-2001. He was elected to the Academy Council, Royal Society of New Zealand (1996-2001); and served on a number of Committees of Royal Society of New Zealand (eg Fellowship selection; medals); he was a James Cook Fellow, Royal Society of NZ; he has been an Invited Presenter, Speaker’s Forum, Parliament and Royal Society of New Zealand (twice) (2005); Invited Speaker, The Borrie Lecture, Australian Population Association, Adelaide (2006); Invited Speaker Executive Director’s Lecture Series, United Nations Population Fund, New York (2007); he was Elected a Life Member, NZ Population Association (2007) (in 1980s twice elected President); and won the Te Rangi Hiroa (Sir Peter Buck) Medal, Royal Society of New Zealand (2009).
Ian Pool has published 6 books, 16 scientific monographs, 139 scientific articles/chapters in scientific books, 27 discussion papers, plus 24 reports.
