Nikki is a Business Development Manager for R&E and a Research Associate in the School of Science, contributing to the University's biomedical research capability. Her role as a Business Development Manager is to engage with researchers and industry in the health and functional foods sectors to facilitate research collaborations.
Nikki's expertise lies in the design of products to diagnose and treat health conditions in both animals and humans. Of Ngāpuhi descent, Nikki brings together her understanding of mātauranga Māori and western scientific principles as a tool to achieve a greater vision for innovation in the health and agribusiness sectors.
After completing a PhD in Biomedicine at the University of Waikato, Nikki completed two postdoctoral fellowships in the functional food research space, prior to her appointment as the Chief Scientist in an animal health company. Most recently, Nikki has been employed in an MBIE-funded role as a commercial advisor working with a small iwi trust in the Bay of Plenty, and as a commercial manager for the University.
