University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarship

The University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarships are intended as an initiative to support and enhance research at the University. The Scholarships provide promising students, particularly those considering further study, with the opportunity to experience the challenges and rewards of research work. Applications will be considered from students studying at up to, and including, final-year honours degree and first-year masters degree.

The Summer Research Scholarship Programme for 2010/2011 will have two closing dates, 31 August 2011 for the Faculty of Science & Engineering, Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the Faculty of Education and the 30 September 2011 for all other Schools/Faculties. Summer Research Scholarships are offered in various disciplines during the summer study break.

The Faculty of Science & Engineering, Faculty of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the Faculty of Education Summer Research Scholarship applications are now closed.

Important notes

 

Before beginning the application process for this Scholarship, you MUST read the regulations of the University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarship carefully.

 

Applicants will also need to send hard copies of some documents to the University of Waikato Scholarships Office. You MUST ensure that you post these in time for them to reach the Office by 31 August 2011 for students applying for projects with the Faculty of Science & Engineering or by the 30 September 2011 for all other Schools/Faculty.

Download the Summer Research Scholarship application form and save this to your own computer. Complete this, and attach the completed form below.

All attachments should be sent as a Word document or PDF

Please attach a brief curriculum vitae of no more than four A4 pages in length which highlights, among other things:

  • Your academic merit
  • Your expertise in the area in which the Scholarship project is being offered.

These documents must reach the University of Waikato Scholarships Office by 31 August 2011 for students applying for projects with the Faculty of Science & Engineering, Faculty of Computing & Mathematical Science and the Faculty of Education or by the 30 September 2011 for all other Schools/Faculties. 

You MUST complete and print this coversheet and send it with all documents / items, to ensure that they can be matched with your application.


    I understand that I must arrange for two academic referee's reports to be sent to the Scholarships Office.

 
    I understand that if I am
new to the University of Waikato OR if I am NOT a citizen or a permanent resident of New Zealand or Australia I must provide verified proof of Citizenship e.g. a verified copy of my passport or birth certificate.


    I understand that I must provide verified copies of academics transcripts from other tertiary institutions I have
         attended

Important notes regarding hard copy attachments

All attachments will be photocopied to be distributed to Selection Panel members. Therefore, please do not bind documents or present them in a folder, as this will be of no benefit to you. Preferably, your attachments should consist of loose pages clipped in one corner by a bulldog clip (if you use staples, these will need to be removed, which can damage your application). Colour printing is also unnecessary, as all applications will be copied in black and white.


Please do not send original documents as they will not be returned; verified photocopies are acceptable.
All documents should be A4 size. If you have smaller documents, copy them to an A4 piece of paper. Documents of other sizes may not be copied and distributed to the Selection Panel with the rest of your application.

The information requested in the attached application form will be used solely for the purposes of assessing your application for the Scholarship for which you are applying. Personal information contained in this application will be made available to members of the Selection Committee, members of the Scholarships Committee and staff of the Scholarships Office.

 

The University of Waikato undertakes to store your application in a secure place in the event that you are successful in gaining an award or are selected as a reserve candidate for an award. The University of Waikato undertakes to destroy your application to preserve its confidentiality, in the event that you are unsuccessful in gaining an award. Should you have reason to believe that information held about you in either your application or your academic record is incorrect, you have the right of access to, and correction of, that information.

I have read and understood the regulations of the University of Waikato Summer Research Scholarship.

I understand that I must send a completed coversheet with any hard copies of documents or items which are required to support my application.

I understand that if I am offered a Scholarship, and accept the offer of the Scholarship, I will only be eligible to be formally awarded the Scholarship if I will be enrolled at The University of Waikato in the year of tenure and comply with any other specific requirements of the scholarship/s for which I have applied.

I understand that the Scholarships Committee may terminate a Scholarship at any time and recoup any funds awarded, if it is satisfied that the holder is not following the required programme or is not otherwise complying with the conditions governing the Scholarship. The holder of a Scholarship shall have the right to appeal to the Academic Board against any decision to terminate the award.
