Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Application Form

 

Important notes

Applying for the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship requires you to obtain various documents depending on your situation. We recommend you complete this application well in advance to establish the requirements.
Most applicants will need to send hard copies of some information to the University of Waikato Scholarships Office. You MUST ensure that you post these in time for them to reach the Office by 01 October 2012

Eligibility

Applicants must excel in either a chosen sporting code or the creative and performing arts. You may only apply in one category.

You must arrange for the following information to be sent to the University of Waikato Scholarships Office by 01 October.

  • A sporting or creative / performing art reference.
    This reference should be from an agency relevant to your chosen sporting code or creative/performing art. It should address your abilities, potential to excel and leadership qualities.
  • Please arrange for your secondary school principal to complete the Principal's assessment form.
  • A copy of your up-to-date NZQA Record of Learning (including NCEA Level 2 results) or equivalent
  • A completed coversheet must be included with all hard copies of these documents
  • Records of study undertaken in the past
  • A second reference.
    This reference should be from a professional who can attest to your leadership qualities and ability to maintain academic standards while pursuing your creative or sporting endeavours.
  • A certified copy of your academic record
  • A completed coversheet must be included with all hard copies of these documents
  • Creative / Performing arts applicants only should include copies of creative works or recordings of performances. Dance, screen and media, music and theatre studies students are required to submit a CD or DVD containing recordings of performances / examples of work. This is optional for other arts applicants.

Important notes regarding hard copy attachments

All attachments will be photocopied and distributed to Selection Panel members.

  • Do not send originals as documents will not be returned.
  • All documents should be A4 in size, smaller documents should be copied on to A4 paper.
  • Attachments should consist of loose pages clipped in one corner by a paper clip
  • Colour printing is unnecessary as all applications will be copied in black and white

Fine Print

The information provided in this application will be used solely for the purposes of assessing your eligibility and suitability for the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship. Personal information contained in this application will be made available to members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Selection Panel, members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Executive Group, members of the Scholarships Committee and staff of the Scholarships Office. The Selection Panel may consult on a confidential basis with representatives of relevant sporting or creative agencies to assess the standing of any achievements listed in your portfolio. Should you be offered a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship, information on your academic achievements will be made available to members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Executive Group during the tenure of your Scholarship.

The University of Waikato undertakes to store your application in a secure place in the event that you are successful in gaining an award or are selected as a reserve candidate for an award. The University of Waikato undertakes to destroy your application to preserve its confidentiality, in the event that you are unsuccessful in gaining an award. Should you have reason to believe that information held about you in either your application or your academic record is incorrect, you have the right of access to, and correction of, that information.

The University may contact the persons you have named in your application as referees for further information. Any such direct contact with these referees will be made on a strictly confidential basis. The University may not divulge details to you about the content of such confidential references without the written authorisation of the referee concerned.
