Please note: Applying for the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship requires you to obtain various documents depending on your situation. We recommend you complete this application well in advance to establish the requirements.

Please ensure that all questions are answered and that all the required attachments accompany this application form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. If your circumstances change after the submission of this application, e.g. you apply for or receive another Scholarship, please inform the Scholarships Office immediately.

Most applicants will need to submit hard copies of some information to the University of Waikato Scholarships Office. Please read the list of additional documents that you will be required to provide and ensure that these reach the Scholarships Office by 18 September 2015

Applicants must excel in either a chosen sporting code or a creative and performing art. Please note that you may only apply under one category ie. sport or art. Please ensure you are specific with your choice i.e. Music - Cello or Rugby Union, not just Sport or Art.

Curriculum Vitae
A curriculum vitae that, in addition to the typical categories, includes the following:
  • a list of any relevant certificates/prizes/awards you have received
  • a brief summary of any publicity regarding your accomplishments e.g. Waikato Times, 9 Sept 2014, brief article about my success
  • any other information which you feel may be helpful to the Selection Panel

Personal Statement
A personal statement (maximum 2 pages) that briefly presents the following:
  • best performance to date and why
  • future aspirations for your creative or sporting endeavours
  • leadership & community involvement

NCEA School Results Summary
A PDF version of your School Results Summary. This must be obtained from the official NZQA website
Once you are logged in follow these steps:
1. Click on the pdf icon in the "My School Entries and Results" screen.
2. Save the summary as a PDF
3. Attach below.
Students completing the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme should attach an outline of their programme of study, and a reference from their secondary school giving indicative grades. Students who have completed the Cambridge International Exams should scan their CIE results and attach to this application.

    Please open and print the Sporting or Creative/Performing Art Referee Report and pass on to a referee relevant to your chosen sporting code or creative/performing art to complete.

  • Verified copies of Academic Transcripts from your most recent Tertiary Institutions
    If you have studied at any tertiary institution(s) other than the University of Waikato, please upload any verfied copies of academic transcripts you may have from other tertiary institutions (including a grading scale where possible):

  • A Leadership/Academic Reference.
    Please open and print the Leadership/Academic Referee Report and pass on to a referee who can attest to your leadership qualities and ability to maintain academic standards while pursuing your creative or sporting endeavours.
  • Creative/Performing Arts Students Only:
    Dance, screen and media, graphic design, music and theatre studies applicants are required to submit a USB, DVD or CD containing recordings of performances/examples of work. Other arts applicants may choose to do so if they feel such material would be helpful to the Selection Panel. Please note that USBs, DVDs and CDs provided in support of your application will not be returned.

Important notes regarding hard copy attachments

All attachments will be scanned and distributed to Selection Panel members.

  • Do not send originals as documents will not be returned.
  • All documents should be A4 in size, smaller documents should be copied on to A4 paper.
  • Attachments should consist of loose pages clipped in one corner by a paper clip
  • Colour printing is unnecessary as all applications will be scanned in black and white

The information provided in this application will be used solely for the purposes of assessing your eligibility and suitability for the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship. Personal information contained in this application will be made available to members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Selection Panel, members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Executive Group, members of the Scholarships Committee and staff of the Scholarships Office. The Selection Panel may consult on a confidential basis with representatives of relevant sporting or creative agencies to assess the standing of any achievements listed in your portfolio. Should you be offered a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship, information on your academic achievements will be made available to members of the Sir Edmund Hillary Executive Group during the tenure of your Scholarship.

The University of Waikato will securely store your application electronically. Should you have reason to believe that information held about you in either your application or your academic record is incorrect, you have the right of access to, and correction of, that information.

The University may contact the persons you have named in your application as referees for further information. Any such direct contact with these referees will be made on a strictly confidential basis. The University may not divulge details to you about the content of such confidential references without the written authorisation of the referee concerned.
