The purpose of the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship is to provide support for school leaver students to achieve a high academic standard in an undergraduate programme of study at the University of Waikato, excellence in a sporting code or creative or performing art, and to develop leadership qualities through a tailored leadership and personal development programme.
The Scholarship is initially awarded for one year but the tenure of the Scholarship may continue for the consecutive period(s) of enrolment required to complete the relevant undergraduate qualification, provided that the recipient continues to meet the requirements of the Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship Programme.
For school leaver and 'gap year' students who demonstrate academic achievement, significant achievement to date and potential to further excel in either a sporting code or a creative or performing art, and a strong potential for leadership. The value of the Scholarship is up to $10,000 per annum for the duration of an undergraduate qualification, subject to continuing to meet the requirements.
