About this excerpt:

Discuss:
It is important to know what to do with instruction words in your task instructions…words like discuss, analyse, consider, evaluate (or critically evaluate), examine … there are quite a few of them. It is important to know what is expected of you in response to the presence of these words in your instructions. There are lots of online guides provided by universities around the world which explain them. We typed 'academic instruction words' into a web search - it was that easy.
We found it quite difficult to analyse the different parts of this introduction; they are all there, but some elements are subtle, while others are split apart and appear in different places. What do you make of it?
