Explore New Zealand while you study
With Hamilton city being located in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island, you can take the opportunity to travel the country with ease. Our region has some of nature’s best on our doorstep; take a 40 minute drive to Raglans famous left hand surf break, or cruise the Coromandel Peninsula and explore natural wonders like Hot Water Beach, Cathedral cove, and coastal townships nestled on expansive white sandy beaches. Nearby cities of Auckland, Tauranga, Rotorua and Taupo, boast numerous tourist attractions from Maori culture, to bungy jumping, and skydiving.
Hamilton itself has all the amenities of big city living paired with a relaxed vibe.
What is student exchange?
You can enrol at the University of Waikato for one or two semesters and credit study to your home degree. To be considered an exchange student your home university must have a formal two-way student exchange agreement with the University of Waikato. For all exchange students, you must be nominated by the relevant office at your home university. Have a look at the University of Waikato's partner universities. As an exchange student you typically pay your standard tuition fees for your home university. This makes for a very cost effective way to gain an international education.
What is study abroad?
Similar to student exchange, you can enrol at the University of Waikato for one of two semesters and credit study to your home degree. The main difference is that you will pay a set tuition fee directly to the University of Waikato. In some cases your university may have a study abroad agreement with us, so check with your home university first.
