Paying International Tuition Fees

International Funds Transfer

You can prepay your tuition, accommodation and insurance fees at your local bank by transferring payment to our Waikato University Custom House account. This is our preferred method of payment and also the easiest and quickest way to pay all your fees if you are overseas.

The international funds transfer allows you to make payment safely and quickly using major currencies: AUD, USD, EUR, GBP and JPY. There are over 20 currencies you are able to make payment from. You can also track the progress of your payment online. Waikato University Custom House account details will appear on the authorisation form which you will need to print and use when processing the payment.

If you are able to pay in your local currency, transfer the funds using your internet banking system or alternatively go into your local bank to make this transfer.

If you are paying in a major currency (that is not your local currency), print the authorisation form and take it to your local bank, and the bank will follow the simple instructions on the authorisation form.

Please Note: Custom House accounts are only for use for international transactions. If you have a New Zealand bank account and wish to transfer money within New Zealand, please see Alternative Payment Options.

Help and advice

Transferring money to our Custom House account is simple and easy. If however you experience difficulty with your local bank or accessing the payment instructions form, please contact the Enrolment Office and an alternative method of transferring the payment can be arranged.

Refund of Pre-paid Tuition Fees

There is a specific process that must be followed when applying for a refund of pre-paid tuition fees. See the International Students Prepaid Tuition Fees Policy. If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact the Enrolment Office on fax number: +64 7 838 4377.

Alternative Payment Options

If you cannot make payment using our Custom House account, alternative payment options are also available. You can opt to prepay your tuition fess by one of the options below:

  • Telegraphic Transfer
  • Bank Draft/Cheque
  • Credit Card or Eftpos

Telegraphic Transfer

You must allow time for your money to be tracked by the University of Waikato Financial Services Division once it arrives in our account. This may take up to 5-7 working days for your money to arrive in our bank account and to be identified after you have transferred the money. A receipt will be issued once the money has been received. Please quote your student identification number and student details within the particulars section of the remittance advice/telegraphic transfer application so that your transfer can be easily tracked.

Once you have completed the telegraphic transfer application you must also fax a copy of the application form to the Enrolment Office via fax +64 7 838 4377.

Bank Draft/Cheque

Either visit the University campus or mail the cheque to the Enrolment Office. Please make payable to "University of Waikato". New Zealand based transactions must be made in New Zealand dollars drawn on a New Zealand bank. Please allow a minimum of 10 working days for the bank draft/cheque to clear so that a receipt can be issued.

Credit Card (MasterCard or Visa) and EFTPOS

Either visit the campus or please complete the Credit Card Authorisation Form.

PLEASE NOTE: All payments must include the students full name and Student ID number. Where possible, please include a copy of the invoice with the payment.
