Mathematics teacher at Te Awamutu College

Kiran Kaur

Kiran Kaur left the University of Waikato at the end of 2019 armed with a Bachelor of Science double majoring in Mathematics and Economics, a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary), and the love of her life. With a wedding planned for 2021 and a job she is passionate about as a mathematics teacher at Te Awamutu College, things are going well for Kiran following her Uni days.

The reputation the University has in the mathematics and computing field is what Kiran believes made her stand out as both a mathematician and economist. "The University has a great reputation for Mathematics and Computer Science and the lecturers are highly regarded. Through my studies I have formed great professional relationships and having them as a reference, for example, is a great way to stand out from the crowd.”

The thrill of passing on her knowledge and passion for numbers to future generations is what gives Kiran a sense of purpose as a mathematics teacher. With numbers being such a big part of who Kiran is, seeing a 100% score on the second test she did on one of her mathematics papers during her time as a student was a highlight of her studies. The feeling of working hard and achieving is what motivates Kiran.

Alongside her academic achievements and finding love, Kiran also found personal growth and genuine friendships during her time at University. “Going to Waikato helped me to not only make some great friends but also forge fantastic professional connections all of whom helped me make the decision to go into teaching after my studies."
