"There is nothing like dissatisfaction to motivate you to see what else is available. I knew I needed to do something more with my life than just stacking cartons. Being at university is the perfect opportunity to challenge and develop your intellect", he says.
Laurie originally intended to dabble in teaching, however ventured into a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Education Studies, and having completed his Honours degree, is now in the process of completing his Master of Arts degree.
Returning to University after being in the work force was a positive move for Laurie. He believes that expanding his knowledge through his studies has helped him to develop as a person, and create more career opportunities for the future. Laurie is also particularly proud of being the first person in his immediate family to gain a University degree.
Laurie's positive outcome, as a result of his studies, has made him a great ambassador for other mature students thinking of embarking on tertiary study.
"I cannot think of a better environment to consider if you're thinking of making a mid-life change. Being at Waikato gives you a fresh perspective on life and provides plentiful sources of inspiration to propel you further towards more opportunities".
