Master of Arts (Applied) - MA(Applied)

The MA(Applied), a one-year full-time programme, which can also be taken part-time or in distance/block mode, is designed for students who wish to further their study of issues in second language teaching and Applied Linguistics. It is a 120 point (4 papers) degree, and you must take APPL501 and APPL522. However, you may with the approval of the Chairperson of the Department of General and Applied Linguistics substitute up to three papers with a dissertation or a thesis.

Entry

To qualify for admission to the MA(Applied), you will need a university degree or Diploma of Teaching, plus a Waikato PGDipSLT (or equivalent). You need to achieve a B+ average in the Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent) in order to proceed to the MA(Applied).
