I wrote about Tokyo Skytree here the other day, which will be open to public next week! An international celebrity paid a visit there this week.

I read a fun news at Yomiuri Shimbun Newspaper today.

A budgerigar disappeared from a household in Kanagawa prefecture on 29 April. The bird flew to a near hotel and stopped on the shoulder of a customer staying there. Then, the customer took the bird to the nearest police station. Police officers had been looking after the bird and then the bird suddenly, the day before yesterday, started speaking! Just once though, she perfectly told the police officers her residential address! So they took the bird to the address and tadahhhhhhh – that’s her home!

If you understand Japanese, please watch the following YouTube - it reports this wonderful news!

The University of Waikato is gearing up for the fourth Kīngitanga Day - an annual celebration of the relationship between the university and the Kīngitanga. Kīngitanga Day is an opportunity for students, staff and the wider community to celebrate the University’s distinctive identity, heritage and relationships.

What is the Kīngitanga?

In 1858, the Kīngitanga or Māori King Movement was established by the Māori tribes across the motu (land). Its purpose was to put an end to Māori land alienation, to halt inter-tribal warfare and to preserve Mana Māori Motuhake, in effect to unite the people. In 2008 - 2009 the Kīngitanga celebrated its 150th anniversary. (cited from this page).

The programme on Kīngitanga Day can be found here. Please come along!

Polar Bear Bento by luckysundae.jpg (c)luckysundae

What sort of lunch do you normally have? And where do you have it? Japanese people often prepare Obento by themselves and eat it wherever convenient. For children, mum and dad often prepare obento.

We had, again, a successful night about a week ago re: the annual Balloons Over Waikato ASB Nightglow hosted by the University of Waikato. If you do not know about this event, please read here. If you would like to see some pictures (yes, they are absolutely spectacular!), please access to this site and then click "Balloons Over Waikato ASB Nightglow 2012" there.

Apparently, the organisers have already started preparing for the event for next year, which will be held between 3 and 7 April 2013. Don't miss it!

I participated, too. What did I do? - I did origami (you can see a Samurai hat on the table in the above photo; that's what I made!) Keiko, our Japanese tutor made those pretty origami of J A P A N !

So where was food? There was a lot of international food there. Unfortunately I was so busy with doing origami and did not have a chance to reach any food tables... Maybe next year!
