Research Interests:

Psychological areas that focus on or involve Maori people. Specific interests are in the field of Maori development and how psychology can make a positive contribution to this direction.

Projects over the last 3 years include, Tangi : Maori ways of mourning, traditional body modification; ethnic status as a stressor; Maori identity development; cultural safety and competence; Maori mental health and recovery; social and economic determinants of health; and creating a Maori space on the Internet.

Expertise:

Associate Professor in Kaupapa Maori Psychology and Director of the Maori and Psychology Research Unit (MPRU).

My areas of interest are community, social and cross-cultural psychology, with a specific interest in Maori people and how psychology may assist in our self-determination.

I am currently interested in supervising students who
have an interest in Death Studies and Maori ways of mourning, as well as research projects associated with the work of the Maori & Psychology Research Unit. For more details go to: MPRU.
