International Languages and Culture

International Languages and Culture enables students to develop a pathway in an international language, one of Chinese, French, German, Japanese or Spanish.

This study is complemented with two compulsory core papers which will introduce students to a variety of materials in multimedia settings. At advanced level the emphasis is strongly focused on issues of text and translation and students will be encouraged to develop individualised projects through the use of directed research projects undertaken in the target language.

Graduates will be competent in their language of specialisation with the capacity to engage with texts in a variety of media formats for translation and communication. They will also attain an advanced understanding of the cultural context in relation to linguistic communication and develop skills in multimedia applications that facilitate international communication.
