Scholarship Award!
The Department of General and Applied Linguistics is pleased to announce the 2005 recipient of the English Speaking Union (Tauranga Branch) Tertiary Scholarship of $500. This years' recipient is Christina Gera who will use the scholarship money to pay for books when she begins her study for the MA (Applied) Applied Linguistics later this year.
Christina is pictured with Bob Shaw, the Branch President of the English Speaking Union (Tauranga) Branch.
The Department is pleased with the ongoing relationship that it has with the English Speaking Union, and this is the second year that the Union has awarded a student of the Department a scholarship. The first recipient in 2004 was Natasha Macdonald, who also used the prize money for books in her study (and completion) of the MA (Applied) in Applied Linguistics.
Dr Roger Barnard, Senior Lecturer in the Department has been invited to address the English Speaking Union, and he will travel to Tauranga on May 17th 2006 to deliver a lecture entitled ‘World Englishes'.
