OKTA: The Spring Concert

Okta, Waikato’s pre-eminent contemporary performance ensemble presents a very special concert on Wednesday September 26th, with music written and performed by some of New Zealand’s leading composers and musicians.

One of the highlights on the bill is sure to be the new piece ‘Nga Puna Roimata’ (The Wellspring of Tears) - a commemoration of the 1978 Raglan arrests, written by composer Michael Williams, with text by John Davies and performances by staff and students from the University of Waikato including New Zealand’s leading taonga puoro exponent Richard Nunns. This multi-media, multi-cultural project is the first of its kind any where in the world, combining principles of Japanese Noh Theatre, traditional Maori instruments, waiata, orchestral instruments and superb vocalists. A must see.
