Driver Perception & Attention
Eye movements and steering performance
2002 |
Novice and experienced drivers were required to focus on different areas of the road, while keeping at the centre of the left lane (using a correct lateral displacement).

Results:
Drivers tend to steer in the direction of their eye movements. Experienced drivers were less influenced by their eye movements compared to novice drivers. The findings also suggested that novice drivers can be taught to look further ahead on the road, to gain a better perception of the curve characteristics.
