Societies and Cultures - Evaluation, complaints and responsibilities
Students will have the opportunity to evaluate each course at the end of the semester, but if something is bothering you about any aspect of the course or the teaching of it, please discuss the matter with your class representative, tutor or one of the lecturers. If the matter is not resolved, you can approach the Chairperson of Social Sciences. The brochure 'Student Concerns and Complaints Policy' provides details of the University's process for handling concerns and complaints and is available from Faculty and School Offices, and the Student and Academic Services Division.
We are responsible for delivering good teaching that reflects high standards of scholarship, and we intend to provide you with constructive feedback on your work within a reasonable turnaround time. In turn, we expect you to assume personal responsibility for your own learning by attending lectures regularly, keeping up with the required readings, participating actively in discussions and activities, and submitting good quality work on time.
Students are requested not to talk, whisper, read magazines, eat, drink, text, or otherwise disturb fellow students during lectures. All cell phones should be turned off before lectures and tutorials commence. Babies and small children may be bought to lectures or tutorials when regular childcare arrangements fall through. However, parents/caregivers must ensure that their children do not cause undue disturbance to the lecturer/tutor or other students.
