Societies and Cultures - Policies on late work, special consideration and exceeding word limits
It is our policy that no extensions can be granted for our papers. You are advised to map out your workload for the semester, manage your time effectively and get your work in by the due date. If, for reasons beyond your control (such as serious illness, death in the family/whanau, or personal injury) you are unable to hand in an item of work by the due date, you can apply in writing, with supporting documentation (medical certificate, counsellor's letter, death notice) for special consideration. Special Consideration also applies where your performance has been impaired or curtailed by circumstances beyond your control.
Please note that an application for special consideration in respect of internal assessment should be made in writing to the examiner no later than three days after the date on which it is due. Section 16 sets out the evidence requirement and the options the examiner has available if special consideration is allowed. Under University regulations, written work cannot be accepted after marked assignments on the same or similar subject matter have been returned to any other members of the course.
A word count should be provided at the end of the essay. While some degree of leniency will be granted, a 10% deduction will be made to the grade of any assignment that varies from the stated word limit by more than 15%.
