Final preparations are underway today for the first Waikato team to head down to the ice this season destined for the geothermal soils of Mt Erebus, Antarctica.
Prof. Craig Cary, Asso. Prof. Ian McDonald and Dr Craig Herbold will be heading down to Christchurch tomorrow morning, then in the wee small hours of Wednesday they will make the 5 and a half hour trip down to Scott base.
Over the last few months the team has organized sampling plans, collected together equipment and sent it off but even today a last minute idea resulted in the construction a new piece of sampling equipment to hopefully improve on the piece used last year. Lets hope its works!
