WGRN holds symposium

The Waikato Gender Research Network (WGRN) held a mini-paper symposium on 14 June 2013 as part of its annual activities. The event was organised by Professor Robyn Longhurst of the Geography programme and brought together 16 presenters across various Faculties and disciplines at the University of Waikato, and participants who shared research interests in gender. The symposium was declared open by Professor Lynda Johnston, also from Geography, and a welcome note was given by Organisational Development Programme Manager Dr Maureen Mara.

The symposium covered main areas related to Gender Research in five sessions: Institutions, Policies, Labour, Empowerment; Maternities; Sporting Bodies; Mobile Bodies; and Sex, Gender, Space. In the presentations and the Q&A sessions that followed, presenters offered and discussed breakthrough perspectives on the topics and received valuable feedback from the audience. The symposium ended with a wrap-up session and drinks and nibbles. Presenters and participants said they enjoyed the event and are looking forward to the GRN symposium next year.
