International Global Change Centre

Director: Prof Janet Bornman

The International Global Change Centre (IGCC) is a semi-autonomous unit hosted by the Faculty of Science and Engineering within the University of Waikato. IGCC focuses on research into managing environmental change at global, regional, and local scales. Key areas of research within its focus include environmental planning and governance, environmental and community outcomes from a Māori perspective, built/historic and natural heritage, biodiversity conservation, integrated risk assessments, model development and climate proofing. The Institute has a large international contact network for promoting work relating to the human dimensions of global environmental change, especially through its professional training programmes. IGCC also runs higher degree programmes (MPhil and PhD) focused on the cross-disciplinary issues of global change. IGCC develops methodologies and tools for global change issues for policy, planning and action in New Zealand and internationally.
