The Student Health Service

Welcome! Nau mai!

We provide a General Practice service for students currently enrolled with the University.

Ko tā mātou he whakaratonga hauora ki te hunga ākonga kua whakaurua ki Te Whare Wānanga.

New Zealand Students are encouraged to enrol with the Student Health Service. If you would like to enrol, please fill out the appropriate PHO form found on the left hand side of this page (above the Community Services Card link). Choosing to enrol with us will reduce the cost of routine consultations to only $10 and repeat prescriptions will be done without charge.

Current university students not enrolled with the Student Health Centre, must pay a higher consultation fee to see the doctor or nurse and the charge depends on whether they have a Community Services Card. They also have to pay a small charge for repeat prescriptions.

Extra charges apply to all students for specific medical examinations (insurance, pre-employment, driving etc) and for travel vaccines and minor surgery, IUD and Jadelle fittings.

Non-attendance fee:

In order try and reduce our high numbers of missed doctor's appointments, we shall be introducing a $10 charge for not attended appointments, which are not cancelled from 18th July 2016.

International students - please see international student page on left.

There are seven doctors, four nurses and two receptionists to look after your healthcare needs. Our experienced team are happy to discuss any health concerns that you may have. These include sickness, injury, health maintenance, vaccination, contraception, cervical smears and sexual health checks.

The service is open Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5pm throughout the year, apart from public or official University holidays i.e. Tuesday after Easter, Christmas and New Year.

No appointment is necessary to see our team of friendly and very experienced nurses. Simply drop-in to see them. They are able to manage many everyday health concerns, for example sore throats, urinary tract infections and sexually transmitted infections. Just ask to speak to the nurse! There are also always urgent on the day doctor appointments which the nurses can access if needed.

You are welcome to bring a support person along to any of your appointments.

Routine appointments can be made:
  • at the reception desk,
  • by phoning 07-838-4037
  • online via Managemyhealth patient portal if you have signed up and are an enrolled patient
Exam Period Hours
  • Student Health is open for extended hours, including Saturday during the exam period, for exam-related illnesses.

Tauranga Students:

The information displayed on this page relates only to students of the Hamilton campus. If you are enrolled with the Tauranga campus but choose to use the Hamilton campus health services, you will be charged the casual patient rate.
