We know that travel and adventure is part of your studies experience with us. The University of Waikato coordinates a series of events for all students. This offers a unique opportunity to visit local New Zealand iconic spots through local tour providers.

Amazing race

Get to know your new campus within an hour. Making teams with other new students, you will race for prizes across campus checkpoints, solve puzzles and complete challenges. The winning team gets cool prizes as well as bragging rights, the most colourful moments are captured in a youtube video. The amazing race is one of the events during international student orientation.

Rotary Club farm visit

The Hamilton East Rotary Club (a not for profit organisation) offer our University international students the opportunity to visit a local working farm. A taste of New Zealand's proud farming tradition hosted by the farmer and their friends. Touch cows and other farm animals up close and enjoy lunch on the farm.

Waitomo Caves

An epic day of flowing through the famous Waitomo Glow Worm Caves in a wetsuit with a tyre tube around you. One for the thrill seekers and nature lovers.

Taupo trip

This action-packed trip has flashes of adrenaline mixed with loads of natural New Zealand beauty so take the chance to experience some of the best excitement to be had in Taupo. This is a great trip for the adrenaline junkies, with a number of upgrades available on the day to add to the basic tour package.

Noho Marae

A unique experience shared overnight at a local Marae. You will eat, breathe, talk and sleep all things Māori. Often touted as the greatest experience enjoyed by our international students, hosted by us, for your cultural enjoyment.

Coromandel weekend stay

See some of the New Zealand's most beautiful beaches, overnight in the Coromandel in an exclusive tour group and join in fun activities including hot water beach spa bathing, and a cooking competition.

Ruapehu snow trip

This annual trip to the snow is always a quick seller. It's great for beginner skiers and snowboarders and those who wish to sightsee. Travelling to the closest ski field to our University, it's a wonderful day to see and experience winter New Zealand.

International Student Orientation

At the University of Waikato we provide an orientation to all new international students. These sessions are aimed at getting you well-adjusted to life and studies here with us in New Zealand. It serves as a one-stop shop to make your transition into university life a breeze.

Faculty orientation

On the day following the International Student orientation session, each faculty/school will host a shorter information session specific to your area of study.

Pathways College orientation

Certificate of Attainment in English Language/Academic English (CAEL, CAAE) students will have an orientation session on the first day of their programme.

MBM orientation and PhD orientation

For new students studying PhD or MBM, there will be an orientation organised for you in the first week of studies here at the University of Waikato.
