Being part of the University of Waikato community is about developing a set of skills that will equip you for a career and about making great memories and life-long friendships.
At the University of Waikato, we offer a diverse and supportive network of student services that you can access as a Pacific student. We are committed to providing and enhancing Pacific student success here at Waikato. But it's not all about classroom learning – we also want you to have an enjoyable time in a supportive environment where you can learn and participate in cultural activities and meet the rest of our Waikato Pacific family!
Scholarships for Pacific students
Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders' Scholarship
Pacific people with leadership potential are being encouraged to apply for a new University of Waikato scholarship funded by the estate of the late Morrinsville accountant and farmer Edna Money. The Edna Money Future Pacific Leaders' Scholarship will provide support for students to achieve academically and develop leadership skills through a tailored leadership and personal development programme.
Prime Minister's Pacific Youth Awards
The Prime Minister's Pacific Youth Awards recognise and celebrate Pacific youth success, showcase Pacific talent and set out to create a cohort of young Pacific role models.
Our Pacific Student Support Coordinator is here to ensure you're aware of all the support available to you. There's plenty of help on hand when you need it so all you have to do is ask!
There are also lots of great cultural groups for you to join as a way of meeting other Pacific students.
We have a dedicated space to enhance the educational aspirations of Pacific students while supporting their cultural uniqueness. Named ‘The Conch’, this space is easily located on Level 0 of the Student Centre, and is available for academic purposes (e.g. Talanoa, postgraduate Talanoa network, Fono, seminars and workshops), as well as social gatherings and community events.
The Conch embodies the University’s commitment to build and enhance the Pacific dimensions of our special character for both domestic and international Pacific students. We hope the space will enable our Pacific learners to feel a larger sense of connectedness to the University campus.
