Te Kura Toi Tangata | School of Education

Te Wānanga Toi Tangata Division of Education offers Educational Partnership Study Awards to all education settings in which our students are placed as part of their initial teacher education or counsellor education programme. In recognition of the partnership, the equivalent of a 15 point paper will be awarded to you for every student teacher or student counsellor your education setting supports. The credits can be used at your discretion to provide additional professional learning opportunities for your staff.

We have papers on offer for face to face in Hamilton and Tauranga, with most papers at all levels also offered online at times that work for those already working in education settings. This includes programmes/papers for those who are interested in:

  • Engaging in conversations about education – that is those people in your school community who seek to become registered teachers or wish to extend their understanding of the sector (i.e. Teacher Aides, Learning Assistants, and support staff might take papers in the BTchgGradDipTchg, or the Teachers Aide Modules).
  • Joining the conversations – your classroom teachers and middle leaders who are seeking to extend their understandings and practices beyond the learning in their undergrad/grad qualifications (i.e. Master of EducationMaster of Educational LeadershipMaster of Disability and Inclusion StudiesMaster of Counselling).
  • Leading the conversations – senior leaders, BOT representatives, or principals who are at the forefront of policy, curriculum developments, evidence-based practice, educational leadership and management (i.e. Educational Doctorate [EdD] and PhD, and soon to be released Individual Paper Credits at 900 level as stand alone papers or as pathway into EdD).

Each educational partnership setting will receive a letter with detailed information about available credits for them to use for the following year.

Please, check with your principal/centre leader/manager regarding available credits and opportunities, or email teach@waikato.ac.nz for any enquiries about this award.

Helpful Hints

  1. Use of Points

Your EPSA points expire each year, so be sure that your principal/centre manager is completing the form in time for your chosen trimester of study.

The EPSA points should be offered first to the mentor/associate teacher that is involved in the development of the student teacher.

Papers taken must be offered by Te Wānanga Toi Tangata.

  2. Application Dates

There will be two rounds of applications each year, one in March and one in August. You can choose which trimester you would like to study in, just ensure that your nominated paper is offered in that trimester.

To ensure that the application to use your EPSA points is processed in time, we recommend having your application submitted a minimum of two weeks priors to the start of your chosen trimester.

  3. What's Covered by Your EPSA Points

Your EPSA points cover the cost of your paper fee, however, you will be responsible for the student services fee associated. This student services fee varies depending on the paper.

When applying for your paper you can either pay the full fee in advance and have the paper fee reimbursed OR you can select 'Pay Later' which will send you the student services fee amount once the EPSA points have been allocated to your paper selection.
