Freshwater ecology is the study of how organisms in freshwater ecosystems interact with each other and their environment. This paper will introduce the structure and function of ecological communities in rivers and lakes, their linkages with adjacent terrestrial and marine ecosystems, and the management of freshwaters including conservation and restoration.
