This paper is designed to place students' practical knowledge of Spanish within a sociolinguistic framework. Students analyse texts and listen to a variety of language registers and phonological modalities of Spanish. Students learn about Spanish in Spain, the USA and Latin America. This course offers an introduction of the history of the Spanish language, the sound system, morphology, syntax, and register variation.
