From New Delhi to New Zealand, Angela Jayson is proof that bold moves can lead to global opportunities.

With a background in finance and experience at EY India, Angela was determined to take her career global.

She set her sights on studying a Master of Applied Finance at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.

“When I was exploring options, Waikato really stood out,” says Angela. “The reputation of the programme and the feedback from alumni gave me confidence that it would offer both academic excellence and practical experience.”

While studying, Angela valued the programme's combination of theory and real-world learning, including major projects, finance lab sessions, and the option of internships.

She also built connections beyond the classroom by joining student clubs such as Waikato Women in Business (WIBA) and the Christian Club.

“The supportive community made a big difference, especially being so far from home,” she says.

Angela’s hard work soon paid off and led to further opportunities. She was named a regional finalist in the EY Oceania Tax Consulting Challenge - an achievement she credits to the practical skills and real-world exposure she gained at Waikato.

Since graduating, Angela has landed a role as a financial crime investigations analyst at ASB Bank in Auckland.

“I’m excited to take the technical knowledge and critical thinking skills I developed at Waikato into this new role. The case studies and team projects have prepared me well for the challenges ahead.”

Angela also plans to continue her professional development by pursuing Chartered Accountancy through CAANZ, supported by her employer.

Her advice to future students is clear: “Moving to a new country can be overwhelming, but stepping out of your comfort zone will help you grow. Get involved, connect with others and make the most of everything the University of Waikato offers.”
