Find a study format that fits your life
The University of Waikato offers flexible learning options designed to help you balance study with work, whānau, location and personal commitments. From 2027, papers will be described using three clear delivery modes: In-person, Hybrid and Online.
These modes make it easier to understand how you will learn, whether you need to attend in person, and how much of your study can be completed online. Choose how and where you study based on your goals, schedule and circumstances.
Modes of teaching delivery
- In-person – Learn at a University campus or another set location, with online tools such as Moodle used to support your study. Learning activities or assessments require you to attend in person.
- Hybrid – Learn mainly online, with a small number of required in-person activities. Hybrid study gives you flexibility while still including some face-to-face learning or assessment.
- Online – Learn and complete your assessments online, with no compulsory requirement to attend in person. You can study from any location.
Delivery modes are shown in paper information before you enrol, so you can see what to expect and choose papers that fit your interests, schedule and goals.

Continuing students
The current Dual delivery mode will no longer be used from 2027. If you began your programme before 2027 and relied on papers previously offered in Dual mode, the University will work with you to support your progress through your qualification where flexibility is needed.
