Originally from Maharashtra, India’s second most populous state, Harpreet Singh is used to big city life. The tranquillity of Hamilton might have been a big shock at first, but now he can’t imagine living anywhere else.

Harpreet has just finished his Master of Information Technology through the University of Waikato Study Abroad Programme. He embraced every aspect of studying in New Zealand and highlights the University’s cultural diversity as the most valuable part of his experience.
“When I decided to study in New Zealand, I didn’t know what to expect. But from the minute I arrived, everyone was so nice and I knew this was going to be one of the greatest experiences of my life. I’ve met people from all around the world and learnt how to communicate with people from different cultures.”
Harpreet credits the University of Waikato for teaching him to be self-dependent in his learning. “In New Zealand, we have a lot more freedom while completing assignments; this has allowed me to become a better learner and find things out for myself. As a result, I’m confident I can handle any challenge that comes my way.”
Harpreet was delighted to discover that, even on the other side of the world, New Zealand celebrates Diwali, allowing him to keep in touch with his Indian culture. Having explored most of Hamilton, he can’t wait to see what the rest of the country has to offer.
After finishing his studies, Harpreet secured an internship at Johnson Partners Limited, a start-up project management consultancy. He was offered three different internship opportunities, but his passion for gaming made it an easy decision.
Harpreet is now a test analyst at Imagimation School in Hamilton, and he's loving it. He hopes to become a game developer, and would love to continue working in New Zealand.
“I am falling in love with this country. The University of Waikato and New Zealand have given me so many new experiences and exceeded my expectations on every level. I would love to come back one day and repay the place that has contributed so much to me.”
