Accounting academics Dr Vida Botes and Associate Professor Umesh Sharma, who both teach in the University of Waikato's Management School, have been lauded for their international research in the 2018 Emerald Literati Awards.

Dr Botes and Assoc. Prof Sharma have both received a highly commended Emerald Literati Award for their recent article, 'A gap in management accounting education: fact or fiction', published in Pacific Accounting Review.

Their study reveals that a significant gap persists between management accounting education and professional accounting practice in South Africa.

It examines this gap by looking at the four perspectives of the Balanced Score Card: customer satisfaction, learning and growth, internal business and financial.
