University of Waikato graduation ceremonies

Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the University of Waikato graduation ceremonies planned for April in Hamilton and June in Tauranga are no longer able to proceed.

Graduation is a special time to celebrate your successes and academic achievements and we understand that this is disappointing news for you, your friends and whānau, who had planned to join you on this day.

When the University Council next meets, they will confer all qualifications in absentia. This means all degrees, diplomas and certificates will be awarded in your absence, and that you will officially graduate without needing to be physically present.

We will send your certificate out to you as soon as we are able, noting that New Zealand will need to move back to at least Alert Level 2 before we are back on our campuses to do this.  To ensure you receive your certificate please check your contact phone number and physical address details are up to date in MyWaikato.

You do have the option to participate in a graduation ceremony when the University is able to hold these events again.  However we anticipate that there may be ongoing restrictions on large gatherings of people in New Zealand for some considerable period of time, so we can give no assurance about when we might again be able to provide the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony in person.

If you wish to participate at a later date or if you have any questions please email
