Alexander Arai-Swale : Bachelor of Music (BMus)

    Alexander Arai-Swale

Alexander has been playing Cello since he was six and loves the challenge of communicating emotion to the audience through music. The former Hillcrest High School student is actively involved with numerous music groups, such as orchestras and chamber ensembles. He continues to hold his position of Principal Double Bass with the Opus Orchestra - to which he was appointed in 2013. In 2014 he was a finalist in the University's annual concerto competition, and his group 'QUATTRO' won the prestigious Royal Over-Seas League scholarship. He looks forward to travelling to the UK with this group, and performing in a wide variety of venues. Now in his third year, Alexander has changed his area of study from cello to double bass, an instrument he has been playing since 2012. He looks forward to studying Bass for 2015, and exploring his passion for orchestral music. He hopes to audition this year for various orchestral academies outside New Zealand, so that he can get one step closer to his dream of playing music professionally.
