I Musici - Serenata Italiana
4 Mar 2012 5:00 PM
"What a treat to hear live such an iconic group as I Musici. Players have come and gone over the course of sixty years, but this charismatic group still charms us with idiomatic colour and flair.” Wilma Smith (violinist and Concertmaster Emeritus of NZSO)
Chamber Music New Zealand’s 2012 season is launched in grand style with one of the best-known ensembles in the world on their first ever visit to New Zealand, I Musici from Rome, Italy.
I Musici take you on a journey of the Italian serenade in their Serenata Italiana Programme, with music by Rossini, Respighi, Paganini, and film composer Nino Rota. Featuring string playing that is both pulsing with energy and delicately sweet, this programme will leave you exhilarated!
Their 1955 recording of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons sold over 25 million copies, making it one of the most famous recordings of the classical music repertoire.
In 2012, I Musici will celebrate their 60th anniversary with a world tour, including performances in Asia, North and South America, Russia and Europe. Immediately following their New Zealand tour, they will return to Italy to give their 60th anniversary concert at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
